Photo project-day 13

these are a few of my favorite things...

When it comes to Christmas, we so enjoy getting out our most treasured things. So many little items have precious memories that go along with each one. Here are a few of mine: snowflakes, a glass ornament from my husband, a new flower to myself and a very old crochet angel. But these are only the tangible ones, below is what I treasure most!

Here are 4 of my little treasures taking an afternoon nap. And one of their favorite things is... making a huge 'pallet', right in front of our tree, then piling lots & lots of blankets and pillows everywhere and finally ploppin' down for a long story, a family game or in this case just a nap. I actually found room to squeeze in there myself this afternoon too. It was great! I really needed the nap. (ps-they don't know I took this pic, ha!)

This is the gorgeous sunset that graces our back yard every evening. What a wonderful God we serve!

FRESH GROUND GRITS

-4 C water -1 1/2 C fresh ground grits (see below) -1 1/2 t salt -1/4 t pepper -4 T butter *In medium sauce pan, add water and remaining ingredients. Stir with a whisk and mix well. *Turn heat to med-hi. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly for 10 minutes. *Now turn heat down to low and place lid on pan. Cook for 35-45 minutes. Stir with whisk often so as not to stick or scorch. *You may need to add water as it cooks, because it will thicken quickly. Make it the consistency you like. *When done, the grits will be a very smooth texture. Note: to grind your own grits, you will need: -1 1/2 C yellow or white whole kernel hard corn -coffee grinder To grind corn, take 1/3 cup corn kernels, at a time, and place into your coffee grinder. Grind corn until the chopping sound becomes smooth. The longer you grind them, the finer they'll be. This will give you the smooth texture you're looking for. Even if you grind them a l-o-n-g time they will not be powdery. They will turn out just like "real" grits. The shorter you grind them, the more lumps you'll have. If you normally like grits...these will make your tongue want to jump out and smack your face! ENJOY! Kimi

Being a Keeper At Home..

...has been an honor that I do not take lightly. It has been my heart's desire to live according to this calling and I strive to fulfill it everyday of this life, that the Lord God Almighty has given me here on this earth.
It is putting your family first, doing your very best to provide a warm, loving environment for your children/husband, you plan & prepare...you seek good, do good and pursue it, taking precaution to establish firm boundaries for your home-so as not to allow ideas which promote the deterioration of the laws of God.
It means finding your place and being content there. Growing right there. Knowing that 'it is good'. It ISN'T forcing a square peg into a round hole. It means that when times get tough, you do not become afraid. It means taking care to bring into light the positive of each family member. Encouraging each one, because you know their frailties and idiosyncrasies. It is speaking ONLY of what is pure, holy, lovely, righteous. Also, kindness in your voice. A gentleness that does take practice to obtain. It is making a place where you can be who you are in God and allow those around you to do the same. Every single day.
