The Adventure Begins

We are finished with our state licensing, have our CPR/First Aid/Pool Safety certification and home study completed. With the recent tornadoes, it pushed back the program somewhat and we all have been eagerly waiting for the arrival of our children.
We got to keep 3 precious kids last week, so they just did school along with us, along with everything else we do. Here’s a little photo gallery of our week.

On a new road...

We have been finishing up our paperwork for something very special....we have taken a new road in the last several months. We are endeavoring to become a foster/adoptive family.
We've had a desire to adopt for many, many years now. My husband and I wanted to adopt children even when we both were children ourselves. Even though each of us grew up in loving families, we wanted to be able to give to children in a special way...maybe one day being able to adopt.
As we embark on this precious journey, we ask that you keep us in your prayers. We want more than anything to follow God's perfect will. He truly has a plan for each of us as we live this life he has given to us. We want to be sensitive to him.

FRESH GROUND GRITS

-4 C water -1 1/2 C fresh ground grits (see below) -1 1/2 t salt -1/4 t pepper -4 T butter *In medium sauce pan, add water and remaining ingredients. Stir with a whisk and mix well. *Turn heat to med-hi. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly for 10 minutes. *Now turn heat down to low and place lid on pan. Cook for 35-45 minutes. Stir with whisk often so as not to stick or scorch. *You may need to add water as it cooks, because it will thicken quickly. Make it the consistency you like. *When done, the grits will be a very smooth texture. Note: to grind your own grits, you will need: -1 1/2 C yellow or white whole kernel hard corn -coffee grinder To grind corn, take 1/3 cup corn kernels, at a time, and place into your coffee grinder. Grind corn until the chopping sound becomes smooth. The longer you grind them, the finer they'll be. This will give you the smooth texture you're looking for. Even if you grind them a l-o-n-g time they will not be powdery. They will turn out just like "real" grits. The shorter you grind them, the more lumps you'll have. Being a Keeper At Home..

...has been an honor that I do not take lightly. It has been my heart's desire to live according to this calling and I strive to fulfill it everyday of this life, that the Lord God Almighty has given me here on this earth.
It is putting your family first, doing your very best to provide a warm, loving environment for your children/husband, you plan & prepare...you seek good, do good and pursue it, taking precaution to establish firm boundaries for your home-so as not to allow ideas which promote the deterioration of the laws of God.
It means finding your place and being content there. Growing right there. Knowing that 'it is good'. It ISN'T forcing a square peg into a round hole. It means that when times get tough, you do not become afraid. It means taking care to bring into light the positive of each family member. Encouraging each one, because you know their frailties and idiosyncrasies. It is speaking ONLY of what is pure, holy, lovely, righteous. Also, kindness in your voice. A gentleness that does take practice to obtain. It is making a place where you can be who you are in God and allow those around you to do the same. Every single day.
